SPITFIRE VC, 1:32 SCALE, 1978.

This is the classic Hasegawa VB converted to represent the famous Shuttleworth Spitfire AR501. Looks dated now with so many other great Spits to this scale produced in more recent years. I had intended to present the model to Neil Williams, the renowned aerobatic pilot who thrilled us flying this aircraft at Old Warden. His untimely death in a flying accident in December 1977 came as a great shock. The model  still survives and is on display at Shuttleworth alongside a bust of Neil. (The model featured in April 1978 Scale Models.)

HEINKEL HE111Z, 1:72 SCALE, 1977.

This is the Italeri‘Zwilling’, another Nürnberg purchase. Recently the Luftwaffe’s big glider tug was kitted by Hasegawa, a great improvement over the old Italian effort. The original was a lead feature in the November 1977 Scale Models, accompanied by the massive Me 321 glider with associated vehicles and figures.

BLOHM UND VOSS BV.138, 1:72 SCALE, 1977.

I’ve always had a soft spot for flying boats and seaplanes. This is the Supermodel kit bought in a Nürnberg hobby shop whilst attending the 1977 toy fair. ‘The Flying Clog’ makes a great model in any scale. (Featured in June 1977 Scale Models.)
